The series are sometimes referred to by the tolerance, the two being related as follows: E3: 50% tolerance. E6: 20% tolerance. E12: 10% tolerance. E24: 5% tolerance. E48: 2% tolerance. E96: 1% tolerance. E192: less than 1% tolerance. When designing a circuit you need to round calculated resistor values to a preferred value. Silver, gold or a fourth colour. Brown (1%) is now common. That mean we can not identify the E series slandered by locking at the color band. Usually E12 series resistors are 10% tolerance (silver) and E24 series resistors are 5% ( gold). Can you please point out how to separate E12 and E24 resistor by locking at the resistor color code.
Standard values of nominal resistance are taken from the E24 series for resistors with a tolerance of ±5%, and E24+E96 series for resistors with a tolerance of ±1%. The values of the E24 / E96 series are in accordance with "IEC publication 60063" Mounting:
This is where the Resistor Ratio Calculator comes in handy. Resistor Series. There are four more or less commonly used resistor series, with 12, 24, 48, and 96 values per decade, respectively. Generally, 5% tolerance resistors are available in E24 and 1% resistors in E96, but this is not a hard and fast rule. For example some low-value 1%

E24 (5%) and E96 (1%) Standard Values The two most common E-values for resistors are E24 (24 values per decade) and E96 (96 values per decade). E24 values are typically associated with 5% tolerance, though E24 values are generally offered in 1% and even tighter tolerance such as 0.5%, 0.25% and 0.1% as well. E96 values are typically associated
There are 12 values from 10 to 82 hence E12 series. There are 24 values in the E24 range. EDIT - the magic number for the E12 series is the 12th root of ten. This equals approximately 1.21152766 and is the theoretical ratio the next highest resistor value has to be compared to the current value i.e. 10K becomes 12.115k etc.
